Winter, winter, winter III
You know you've accustomed to Canada when...
...you say things like: "This weekend it will be really, really warm." because the forecast predicts only minus 5°C! :-) And you don't only say it, you meant it, and you feel it. Today it's about minus 10, and oh, it's such a difference (well, almost 20 degrees difference to yesterday should better make a difference!): You wear your gloves and toque (Canadian English for cap) because of habit rather than of necessity. You don't feel the urge to cover your mouth with your scarf. You don't feel numbing cold creeping through your jeans. Nice!
I wonder how it will feel at home. I never cared much about temperatures so when people ask me about the lowest temperatures in Austria I didn't really know. My guess was "We can have about minus 20, but usually only during the night, not during the day." - I just checked and according to Wikipedia we do reach these temperatures during the day as well. The lowest temperature recorded was Zwettl (NÖ) with -36.6°C (11. February 1929). And the lowest temperature in 2005 was Seefeld with -27,3 ° C (1 March). - Uh and that doesn't really count but it's still interesting: Gruenloch (altitude 1260m) near Lunz am See recorded the lowest temperatures ever in the alps: -52.3°C in 1932 (and about -47°C during the experiment in 2003) (Source). I have to remember some of those data. Everyone is so obsessed with temperatures here. I think Winter is to Canadians a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger to Austrians: Not really cool but still something to brag with. :-)
